Broken Wings

The play is set in the foothills of the mountains of Peru in South America.

It opens with a scene between the blue bird, Strin and his friend Mistletoe, the imp who have just arrived from Pluto.

Although Strin’s wings have broken, he is pleased to be there. These humans, he says, need to be ‘shaken up a bit’. So that they can learn, grow, and move on.

The wise Strin allows mischievous Mistletoe, along with some friends they meet on their way, Agsa the baby giant, and Sun the red Indian, to wreak just the right amount of change on one particular family: Treepan, his brother Nerville, and his sister Nell. Even Squeeli the depressed clown is pulled into the mix.

Every character is completely different, with their own foibles; but they manage eventually to communicate.

In this way, the play reaches its climax: a happy group of individuals who have learnt to accept themselves and each other.

Even though their ‘wings’ are ‘broken’, they have learnt to ‘fly’.
